Pygmalion and his Galatea

Another well known story of Greek mythology is the tale of Pygmalion and his beloved Galatea. Story has it that Pygmalion was a sculpture from the island of Cyrpus in the Mediterranean. He was a great sculptor but he hated women. He only saw the flaws in women and could never become attached to one. However, once he made one of his best works, his image of a perfect woman, he was absolutely in love with it. The goddess of love, Aphrodite saw this and decided to give life to the statue as a reward for a sacrifice.  The two eventually were married with the blessing of Aphrodite and went on to have a son. And later, the city founded by that son is dedicated to Aphrodite, who made this possible.

If I had to choose a character to bring back to life, I would say Jack Dawson. The story of him falling in love with Rose aboard the Titanic, saving herself from suicide and depression, teaching her to live again, and rescuing her from her abusive husband-to-be is one to be remembered. One cannot sinply watch the ending of the film without crying. Even I, usually emotionally tame, feel my eyes water at the death of Jack. They were just such a great couple and will be missed.
