Daphne and the Laurel Wreath

Apollo made Eros, the god of love angry by making fun of him one day. Out of anger, Eros shot a golden arrow at Apollo and made him fall in love with Daphne the virgin. Eros also shot Daphne with a leaden arrow so that she would never love Apollo back. Apollo followed Daphne until she came to the river of her father. Peneus is her father, and he turned her into a laurel tree to protect her from Apollo. He thought she would be safe from Apollo this way. Apollo got sad, and then he made himself a laurel wreath from the tree. The winners were to be crowned by laurel leaves at this time. He then vowed that Daphne would have eternal youth where leaves would always stay green and never turn brown.
The idea of eternal youth is a beautiful thing. Everything is so much easier when you're younger and do not understand. Ignorance truly is bliss. I don't think that it actually exists, which is sad, but sometimes, especially on days like today, I wish I could just be ignorant and only cry over the little scrape on my knee instead of understanding the evils in the world and that everyone is not good. I wish I could bless eternal youth on people to protect their wellbeing, and same with myself sometimes.

Just like this cute little boy smiling because he's happy, not a fake smile trying to cover up the bad things.
