Daphne and the Laurel Wreath

Apollo, feeling really good about his archery skills, mocked Cupid and told him to “leave [bows and arrows] for hands worthy of them.” This snarky comment made Cupid really angry and so he shot two arrows: one with a sharp, gold tip to excite love and one with a blunt, lead tip to repel love. The gold tipped arrow struck Apollo through the heart and the lead tipped arrow struck the nymph Daphne. Apollo was overcome with an insatiable lust for Daphne and Daphne, on the other hand, abhorred all things related to love and romance. Apollo chased after Daphne to make her his wife and Daphne ran… out of fear. As her strength began to weaken, she called out to her father, the river god, and he transformed her into a laurel tree. Apollo claimed her as his tree and made a wreath from her leaves. He also granted her eternal youth.

I would love to have more time. More time to experience everything, more time to spend with friends and family, more time to learn about our world, and (right now) more time to write freaking college essays… BUT what makes a day, a year, a lifetime fulfilling is what we accomplish in a limited number of hours. With eternal youth, a bucket list would have very little value. And after experiencing everything in the world, we would still have, literally, all the time in the world to waste. What’s the fun in that? Eternity would render everyday life extremely boring. Even the most exciting of events would only be a wink in time of forever. So, whereas I would love to have more time, I wouldn't quite want to have forever.
