The Box of Many Evils and of One Hope.

The story of Pandora's Box has been around for thousands of years. The story of Zeus (King of the Gods) asked Hephaestus to make a daughter for him out of clay. Zeus sent his daughter to Epimetheus, the brother of Prometheus who gave people fire without asking permission first. Zeus gave Pandora, a curious girl in the least, a small box with a huge strong lock. Pandora promised to never open the box and Zeus gave the key to Epimetheus. Pandora kept asking him for the key and to open the box, but Epimetheus resisted. Finally, Pandora took the key one night while her husband was sleeping and opened the box. Out poured disease, sickness, hate, envy and all the bad things that none of the people had experienced before. She quickly slammed the lid, but it was too late. The evil was released. Epimetheus woke up to Pandora sobbing because she opened the box. She opened it once more to show that it was empty, and a small bug--hope--flew out.

Evil surronds this world and it is too great for just one person to tackle. So, I like to think what can I do locally. I volunteer at my church on Thursday nights to feed anyone who might need a hot meal. The time is short, but the impact that one hot meal can have on a family of four can be seen in the children laughing and playing. I am proud to be involved in such a mission oriented church that goes on mission trips and helps in the community having an after school program for kids. Every time that I help and volunteer with these programs, I see myself squelching a tiny bit of evil that surrounds the community.
