Pandora's box

The story of Pandora’s Box starts out with Zeus and Prometheus. Zeus was angry with Prometheus and his brother Epimetheus because Prometheus had stolen fire and returned it to humans. Zeus was furious so he came up with a plan to punish the two. He created a woman from clay and named her Pandora. Then he sent Pandora as a gift to Epimetheus. As a wedding gift, Zeus gave Pandora a beautiful box with the condition that she never opens it. Pandora was very curious about the contents of the box and one day, when Epimetheus wasn’t looking, she opened the box. The box was packed full of terrible evils. When Pandora opened the box, out flew disease, poverty, misery, death, and sadness. Pandora slammed the box shut and heard from within a lone voice pleading to be let out. She determined that nothing could be as terrible as the horrors that had already flown out so she opened the lid again. All that was in the box was Hope. Even though Pandora had released pain and suffering, she also released Hope into the world.

An evil that I’d like to squelch is laziness. Laziness is knowingly neglecting responsibilities/tasks. I know from personal experience, that lazy days only lead to guilty hours of unproductiveness and procrastination. I’ve also noticed that laziness can be an unfortunate obstructer of potential. Often times, when people (who tend to be lazy) fail, it is not the lack of inherent ability, but rather the lack of effort. I hope for myself and others that we can overcome laziness to some extent in order to be more efficient in our work and progress.
