Pandora's Box

Pandora’s Box is a story that tells of curious girl who was given the gift of a locked box by the gods. She was warned not to open the box, but, like what happens to many, her curiosity became overwhelming. After the box was opened all of the terrors in the world spilled out. Just after all of the problems flew out, there was one last thing that Pandora noticed- an idea called hope was also released. This is the very well-known mythological story that talks about how the world’s problems came to be. I found this story to be very interesting because we rarely think about from where the world’s evils arose.  There are many evils in the world that I would like to squelch; one that comes to mind right now is ending stereotyping throughout society. In schools and communities everywhere stereotyping leads to hasty judgments, conflicts, and an overall negative environment. People stereotype based on all kinds of things; the color of your skin, the style of your hair, the way you walk or talk. Having people look past these superficial impressions and break down their preconceived ideals of groups of people can lead to a much stronger, equal, and happy society.
