Garden of Eden

In the beginning, the earth was empty and shapeless. In six days God created light, day, night, the sky, oceans, land, vegetation, the sun, the moon, stars, creatures of the seas, birds, livestock, and humans to rule over the earth. God blessed the seventh day and rested.

God created Adam from dust and placed him in the Garden of Eden. Then the Lord took out one of Adam’s ribs and formed a woman, Eve. Together they lived in the paradise of Eden, forbidden only from eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

The serpent, however, tricked Eve into eating the fruit from the tree and she, in turn, gave some to Adam. They then knew things they hadn’t known before, including the fact that they were naked. To punish them for eating fruit from the tree of knowledge, God cursed the serpent, gave pain during child birth to women, and the hardships of laboring for food to men. God then drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden.

My origins: I was born in Lexington, Kentucky on March 14th, 1996. I was pretty lucky because the Arboretum was really close to our apartment complex. My parents would take me and my sister there every day; we would collect as many caterpillars as we could and then cry when my mom told us we couldn’t keep them. The Arboretum served as our little paradise, so in relations to the Bible, I guess it’s kind of like our own Garden of Eden only there isn’t a snake or a tree of knowledge (I guess it’s not really like the Garden of Eden). Funny side note, apparently I loved the Arboretum so much that when I started going to daycare, the teacher said that I would just stare out the window in the direction of the Arboretum every single day. At some point, I don’t really know when, we stopped going to the Arboretum and I got used to school. So that’s my origins in a very small nutshell.
