We continue on Adam and Eve's story in Genesis 4, beginning with the birth of their sons Cain and Abel. Abel was a sheep tiller and Cain was ground tiller. Later on, Cain and Abel both bring offerings to the Lord, with Cain bringing "the fruit of the ground" and Abel bringing "the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof". The Lord ended up respecting Abel's offering, but did not respect Cain's, which he did not take very well. His jealousy of his brother got the best of him, and Cain kills Abel. The Lord doesn't appreciate this, so he questions Abel's whereabouts, to which Cain replies "Am I my brother's keeper?" The Lord punishes Cain with terrible earth and vegetation, and marks him so that he cannot be killed. He then goes on to a different place to continue a very long blood line with his wife.
When it comes to my brothers and me, we haven't gone so far as to wanting to kill each other (okay, maybe occasionally), but we do get into heated conflicts occasionally. My younger brother is only 10 months younger than me and we were born in the same year, so we're pretty close, but this also calls for more bickering. While my older brother is 4 years older than me and not as close, we still get conflicts more than necessary. But then again, conflict will come in any relationship, no matter what type, so it just needs to be embraced.
