Pandora's Box

Pandora's Box is a Greek mythology story in which the first woman on Earth, created by Hephaestus, is given a box that Zeus tells her not to open under any circumstances. Unfortunately, because she was given a sense of curiosity by the gods, she eventually gave into the temptation and opened the box. The box released all of the evils into the world, and though Pandora quickly tried to close it, all of the evils had escaped before she was able to. The only thing remaining in the box was the spirit of hope, Elpis.

This is definitely a story unique to Greek mythology as there are no parallels, to my knowledge, in other mythologies. Like many mythological stories, it attempts to explain the origin of something present in the world, in this case, all of its evils and maladies.

If there were any evils that I would like to bring an end to, it would be my hedonism. I cannot explain why, but although I diligently work at school as much as possible, the second I get home, I simply am unable to work. In fact, I am sitting here typing this right before eleven, and I know as a fact that I still have to translate lines from Japanese into English for my mentoring project and that I have Calculus homework, and all of that could have been avoided if I was able to simply stop goofing off on the internet and pay more attention to my studies at home. This rather embarrassing quality is definitely something I feel will negatively impact me as I head into college and eventually the workforce, and so I feel that it is extremely pertinent to my well-being to overcome this quality as quickly as I possibly am able to.
