Echo and Narcissus

This story is a myth about Echo and Narcissus. Echo falls in love with Narcissus, but Narcissus does not reciprocate the love. Echo doesn't give up on Narcissus. She continues to go for Narcissus until her body is gone and only her voice is left. Then, Narcissus stops to get a drink at a pond. When he sees his reflection in the pond, he falls hopelessly in love with himself, hinting at what today we refer to as a narcissist. He cannot get his reflection, so he ends up staying at the pond until he starves to death. This shows how narcissism formed or a story to help explain what it is in the form of a story. Narcissus was so focused on himself and so selfish and into himself that he ignored the one person that really cared about him and loved him.
I feel like i know a lot of narcissists, and a lot of teenagers definitely are narcissists at times. It absolutely does abhor and disgust me. It's something I cannot stand more than anything. For example, people in high school will do the smallest things to get a little bit of attention or acceptance when it is really hurting another person. Some people, I would do anything in the world for, but they are so caught up in themselves and their own lives and problems that they don't even appreciate this. The people that won't just listen and be there, but instead they have to relate every single thing to their own life...drives me crazy!! If you love someone and care about them so much, they should show the same love to others, not just focus on himself or herself. Everyone has a little bit of narcissism, but some people really do have a problem with it, and it is frightening. Basically, if you intentionally hurt someone due to seeking your own self pleasure, you are acting narcissistic. On the other hand, altruistic people are just awesome. Not to be cliche, but Jesus is the paradigm of an altruistic person. He sacrificed his own life, suffered on the cross, just so that our sins would be forgiven. If that isn't love then I don't know what is. My mom and some of my close friends are very altruistic, and this shows when the times are bad or something. If they will do anything for you, even if it is dreadful for them, they are acting out of the kindness in their hearts.

This is a picture of Jesus on the cross, suffering, out of love for all of us, a perfect example of being altruistic.
