Abraham and Isaac

Abraham takes his son Isaac to a mountain to sacrifice him to show his obedience to God. Abraham builds an altar out of wood and binds his son to the post. Right when he is about to do the deed, God calls to Abraham telling him to stop and not to kill his son.  Instead, Abraham sacrificed a Ram that he saw on the mountain and used it as his tribute to God. An angel came down on behalf of God and blessed his future family.
An example of true sacrifice is in a book I recently read, Allegiant by Veronica Roth. If you haven’t read it- do not read this section of this post! But in the book, at the end, the protagonist Tris sacrifices herself for her brother Caleb and goes into the death chamber to try and shut down the bad guys. I will not reveal the rest, but this was such a great example of true, selfless sacrifice done by Tris.
