The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin

The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin Written by Justin Hayward http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9muzyOd4Lh8 http://www.lyricsfreak.com/m/moody+blues/nights+in+white+satin_20095762.html The impression I get from the song is that the narrator is looking back on his life and all of the things he could have done but didn't. The "nights in white satin" that the title and the lyrics refer to could mean the long, restless nights kept awake by love sickness, the "white satin" referring to the bed sheets. Another way you could look at it is that this is the end of the speakers life, still reflecting on things he didn't do. In this case, the only thing i can think of that the "white satin" could mean would be the material on the inside of a casket. "Nights in white satin, never reaching the end" would be symbolizing death, which is being portrayed as eternal. What he is regretting is his decision in not letting the woman he is in love with know how he feels, the "Letters I've written, never meaning to send." But the song isn't talking specifically about one person, but of the whole concept of regretting or longing for to the past. "Impassioned lovers/Wrestle as one/Lonely man cries for love/And has none," as well as "Senior citizens/Wish they were young" are just a list of examples that the author uses to show that this restlessness exists in many people. This song is the last on the album, so it is meant to be a conclusion to the story of the heartbroken and the regretful.
