Love is a Broken Thing

Using one of the poems from Chapter 7 as a model, write a poem on the theme of love and relationships.  You might write a narrative poem, such as Robert Penn Warren’s “True Love,” or write a poem based on an analogy, as Billy Collins does in “Weighing the Dog.”

Love is a broken thing
         with rifts
                   with tears
                              with flowers
                                       with rings
and yet it lives on
with glues,
with stitches,
with thorns,
with scratches.

Love is a marveloous thing.
