Lovey Dovey

"She walks in Beauty" by Lord Byron "Love is not all" by Edna St. Vincent Millay

These two poems couldn't be more different. One is talking about the wonderment of love - its beauty and majesty. The other is about the frivolousness of love - its lack and overrating. "And all that's best of dark and bright / Meet in her aspect and her eyes" shows the overwhelming amount of beauty that the narrator holds towards the subject of love. In this case, Love is almost sacred, it is something that provides a happy and whole feeling in a person and a person is not complete without it. However, in "Love is not all" by Edna St. Vincent Millay, she writes that love isn't substantial for our survival, "Love is not all: it is not meat nor drink / Nor slumber nor a roof against the rain." In this case, she is completely seeing love in a different light as love isn't necessary and nor is it beautiful. I think that the first poem is closer to my own opinion because no matter what situation we are put in, we need to have love in our lives whether it be romantic love or just friendship love and trust.
