I give you a son, now prove your devotion.

So, imagine this.  You are a really old man whose faith in god in unbeatable.  God grants you your only son for this. You love this son with all your heart. Then, God tells you to sacrifice this one and only beloved son of yours. First, imagine how hard that would be to take. Now, Abraham love and trusted God so he went to sacrifice his son. He got to the mountain,  tied up his son and was about to sacrifice him when God suddenly told Abraham that he passed his test. Behind Abraham appeared a ram with his horns stuck. Abraham sacrificed the ram.

True sacrifice can vary. If Abraham were to kill his one and only son, that would have been extreme true sacrifice. One could sacrifice they time easily.  I would find it fair to say that if one were to spend a few hours one day volunteering and helping those who need it are truely sacrificing.  Instead of sitting on a couch watching How I Met Your Mother, one could go out and help serve meals to homeless people, make beds for homeless people or sort clothing. Yes, sacrificing time like this is not as dramatic as what Abraham was willing to do. But, by volunteering to help those in need, you are taking your time to do something that is not required of you to help other people.
