There was a man named Abraham who had a son named Isaac-who he loved so dearly...and one day God called out to Abraham and said that he should sacrifice his son on a mountain. So Abraham took his grown son up the mountain. When they got there, Isaac asked where the animal to sacrifice was and Abraham said he had it taken care of and then he started crying because he loved his son so much. Right before he sacrificied Isaac, God ordered him to stop and said that he was just testing Abraham. Then Abraham took a ram and killed it to sacrifice in place of his son.
True sacrifice is giving all you have, asking for nothing in return. It is the most selfless act one can perform. These days, most people don't see the sort of sacrifices like Abraham's but those fighting overseas have sacrificed a lot for this county so I feel like that is as close as it gets for most people.
