In the story of Odysseus and the Trojan Horse, the Greek
military uses their conniving and tricky skills to finally defeat Troy after a
10 year war. Pretending to be accepting defeat, the Greek military sailed away
from Troy in their ships and “accidentally” left behind a great big horse. The
Trojans, prideful and cocky, adopted the man-made horse and brought it into the
walls of their city. Little did they know, a few Greek soldiers were hidden in
the horse and as soon as night fell, the soldiers snuck out of the horse,
unlocked the gates to the city, and invited the rest of the Greek military in
to destroy Troy.
My dream journey would be an international service trip.
Taking my senior mentoring project as my first opportunity to have this
journey, I am going to Brazil this spring break to install water purification
systems. Third-world development has always had a special place in my heart. My
parents love to travel, so they made sure my sisters and I saw the country (45
states) and the world (5 countries) while we were still living at home. These
experiences have made me more aware of a variety of cultures, as well as
inspired a love for traveling. On top of getting to travel and do country
development work, my Brazil trip will also be a neat opportunity for me to gain
experience as a trip coordinator- a career that I may potentially be interested
in.
The picture below is of me and the Y Corps: Service to the South team working in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans, LA. Our service trip went across 8 states (Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas).
